HBHA is thrilled to welcome Annie Glickman into her role as the new Head of School. With a strong connection to the Kansas City Jewish community, and a passion for education, Glickman is determined to lead HBHA to a successful future. By instituting the school’s long-lasting values and traditions, she plans to strengthen the foundation upon which HBHA was built.
In her first couple months on the job, Glickman has already been struck by the dedication and commitment she has witnessed at HBHA. “I have been overwhelmed by the type of emotion that people have, and involvement that people have, and passion for us here as a community. I think what surprised me is that I knew it, but I didn’t know it in this way.”
Having been a parent at the school for over 12 years, Glickman was familiar with HBHA’s strong values rooted in community. However, becoming the new head of school has allowed her to fully grasp the level of devotion that people in the community hold. She says, “Being here on the inside, to be able to exceed and experience the passion, has been a really wonderful surprise.”
One of Glickman’s priorities as a leader is ensuring that all people around her are equipped with the means necessary to succeed. She says, “I subscribe to a certain type of leadership that really talks about servant leadership, that really works to try to empower those in doing the work to make informed, thoughtful decisions. And so the way I view my leadership is that if other people are succeeding, that is my success. So, you know, if students feel that they’re succeeding in their work, if faculty feels that their aligned, and they can do their work and they can maximize their potential as faculty; if the administration feels like the day is running well and there is strong communication to me, that is where I feel successful.”
Glickman believes in empowering others to reach their full potential, and creating an environment filled with growth and collaboration.
She further elaborates, “I think leadership is about guiding and informing, but it is also the ability to allow everyone who is involved to feel that they can reach their full potential.”
One of the ways she implements this is by promoting a collaborative environment where students, faculty, and administration are encouraged to contribute and feel empowered in their roles.
Glickman remains excited about future possibilities. She is eager to find new ways to enhance the school and create more opportunities for everyone involved.
“I’m starting to think about where we can plan, and where we can envision. Where can we go? Where could we be thoughtful or intentional about new positions or new experiences that our community could have,” she explains.
As our new Head of School settles into her role, HBHA can expect a bright and successful future. She is committed to making thoughtful and intentional decisions in order to benefit the institution. The school community is excited to see how she will continue to enhance and improve its academic and cultural environment.
