HBHA varsity basketball is thrilled finally to be counting down the last final days before their departure for the Israel Becker Tournament hosted by TanenbaumCHAT in Toronto, Canada. This tournament is a big pivot in the HBHA basketball department and is going to be a great experience for all coaches, players, and chaperones attending.
However, the team has put in a lot of work in this final week before leaving on Sunday morning. The rules and regulations of the basketball games at the tournament differ from the NFHS (National Federation of State High School Associations) and KSHSAA (Kansas State High School Activities Association). The tournament is taking place in Canada, FIBA (International Basketball Federation), and HBHA will be following those rules. Some main key differences are the way fouls are called as well as the addition of a 24 second shot clock. This means that each team will only have 24 seconds to shoot the ball each possession. This is a massive difference that HBHA varsity’s teams have never had to think about before. During practices, both teams have been adapting to these new rules, scrimmaging against each other with a 24 second limit in order to prepare.
Everyone involved has been hard at work to make this experience one of the best, and everyone is so excited!
