With another week of holidays, unfortunately, the only HBHA sports game played this week was the Girls Varsity Volleyball Tournament, which resulted in a third-place finish as senior Gabby Sosland and junior Naama Reem received awards during the tournament for their outstanding play. Yes, the Volleyball team hoped to win the tournament, but this finish is still a major improvement from previous years. Due to the lack of games this week, let’s take a peek at the stars of the fall HBHA sports this year.
On the volleyball team, let’s focus on senior Gabby Sosland and junior Naama Reem, who have completely changed the culture of volleyball this year.
Sosland, who has been on the team since freshman year, has been a leader from the get-go. She’s been captain for junior and senior year, and her presence on the court is always felt with her clever and powerful setting abilities.
Naama Reem, who recently joined the Volleyball team last year, has changed the intensity and success of the team since she stepped on the court. Her serves are quick and spinny, making it very difficult to return. Reem’s and Sosland’s leadership and contribution helped the Volleyball team finish third in the conference this year, which is their best finish yet.
Flipping to the soccer side of sports, let’s pivot to emerging freshman star Gus Zitron and scoring threat and captain, sophomore Uriel Noorollah. With injuries to key upperclassmen this year, you’ve got to love the underclassmen showing leadership.
Noorolah, who is at the striker position, has led the team with 8 goals and has shown why Rams soccer can compete. His influence on his teammates reveals why he was the correct player to be captain and lead the Varsity Boys Soccer team.
Freshman Gus Zitron has 5 goals this season, along with 5 assists (leading the team), showing he can really do anything on the field. Playing midfield, his mixture of defense and quick offense could b e beneficial for Rams Soccer for years to come. Noorolah and Zitron hope to continue their offensive strengths as they face off against Blue Valley North on Senior Night, this Sunday, October 19th, for a blackout-themed game at the Kansas City Current practice fields!
